This report summarizes research regarding the relationship between employee and employer contributions in defined contribution (DC) plans such as 403(b)s and 401(k)s.  It is intended to assist plan sponsors who are considering changes in their DC plans to attain certain objectives, such as developing stronger incentives for employee savings, implementing a more attractive benefit package for recruitment purposes, and reaching a more desirable mix between employee and employer contributions.
