The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) amended ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code and the Public Health Service Act by requiring new privacy, security, and electronic data transmission mandates for employers who maintain group health plans. This one-hour web conference, presented by attorneys Karen B. Levin and Stephen Bowers of Mercer Human Resource Consulting, and moderated by Institute associate director of education, Michele F. Davis, was useful for administrators who want an enhanced understanding of the requirements and impact of HIPAA's provisions.
