TIAA-CREF Institute sponsored the inaugural 2001 Directors' Summit developed jointly by the State of Wisconsin Investment Board and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The purpose of the summit was to create an educational forum where institutional investors could establish a positive dialog with the directors of publicly traded companies on key corporate governance and related issues in a proactive manner. Additionally, the forum expected to encourage academic research that investigates the link between good corporate governance and positive, long-term financial performance.
If your contact with institutional investors is limited, this summit provided the opportunity to discuss their policies and priorities in a more analytical setting. In addition, you were able to gain a better understanding of what to expect at your next annual meeting from institutional shareholders.
