Building Expertise Web Conference
"Employers' Obligations to Workers in Military Service"

Recent world events have necessitated that numerous U.S. military and National Guard reservists be called into active federal duty, and the number continues to rise. Your institution may be one of many impacted by employee leaves of absence due to mandatory military service. What rights and benefits must be provided to these employees and to their families while they serve? What entitlements do veterans have upon return to civilian employment? To effectively communicate regarding these issues, and to appropriately administer such benefits for employees on military leaves, you should have a keen awareness and thorough understanding of the underlying legislation.

This web conference reviewed the federal military leave law, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and highlighted the key requirements imposed upon impacted employers and employees.

Intended primarily for benefits professionals, this web conference featured guest presenters, attorneys Stephen Douglas and Richard Gisonny, principals from the Technical Services Unit of Towers Perrin, and was moderated by TIAA-CREF Institute associate director of education, Michele F. Davis. This presentation included content that could be utilized when communicating USERRA provisions to affected employees.
