Knowledge On-Demand

Through grants and partnerships, we underscore the importance of rigorous and sophisticated research and the value of collaborating with others in the pursuit of knowledge to reach shared goals.

The TIAA-CREF Institute Research Grant Program was established to encourage scholars to pursue research in areas of interest to TIAA-CREF, such as retirement income security issues and strategic issues in higher education.

Included in this section are summaries of completed grants and grants in progress. Research findings from many grant projects have been published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, the Journal of Economic Theory, and the Journal of Financial Services Research.

Researchers who are interested in applying for a grant are strongly advised to submit a brief letter of inquiry to determine whether the Institute's present interests and budget allow consideration of the request.  The letter should be submitted to Paul Yakoboski via email at pyakoboski@tiaa-cref.org.

The letter should include the following four items : 1) a short description of the project, 2) estimated overall budget, 3) period of time for which funds are requested, and 4) names of researchers who will be conducting the research.  The Institute will respond to the inquiry and may ask the grant seeker to submit a formal proposal.

Institute Partnerships are goal-oriented projects initiated by us or by other groups with anticipated outcomes relevant to the business of higher education and/or lifelong financial security. Projects are not required to be research based. In providing financial support to a partnership initiative, the Institute adheres to an established process as explained in the Partnership Program Overview document. Partnership requestors are asked to read this material in its entirety and follow all of the requirements indicated for application.

Information about partnership projects completed and underway is provided in this section so that others can learn from and expand on results and findings.

To discuss potential partnership initiatives, contact Jeanie Watson by email (jlwatson@tiaa-cref.org.)
