NEW YORK, NY - January 19, 2010 – Ms. Bell-Rose will oversee the Institute's work to advance TIAA-CREF's growth strategy and encourage a sound, national retirement system. The TIAA-CREF Institute was established nearly 12 years ago under the leadership of Madeleine d'Ambrosio to promote TIAA-CREF's commitment to scholarship, thought leadership and its unique and longstanding partnership with the higher education community. Building on the Institute's success under the leadership of her predecessor, Ms. Bell-Rose will focus on broadening and deepening the Institute's agenda, which includes advancing lifelong financial security and the business of higher education.
Ms. Bell-Rose joins TIAA-CREF from Goldman Sachs, where for the past decade she served as the founding President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, an organization with a mission to promote excellence and innovation in education worldwide.
She has served as a member of both the Business-Higher Education Forum and a steering committee member for the World Economic Forum's Global Education Initiative. Previously, she served for eleven years as Foundation Counsel and Public Affairs Program Officer for the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She began her career as an attorney and holds a B.A., J.D. and master's degree in Public Administration, all from Harvard University.
Ms. d'Ambrosio will remain with the Institute team in a strategic role, which will draw upon her long tenure with TIAA-CREF and her strong institutional relationships. She will work closely with Ms. Bell-Rose during the transition.
